Good news for students attending HBCU South Carolina State University!
The historically Black university said it would cancel $9.8 million in student debt to provide relief for students who were unable to return to college because of the financial hardship caused by the global pandemic. It will all go in effect with stimulus money from the CARES Act and American Rescue Plan.
SC State University Acting President Alexander Conyers said the school is “committed to providing these students with a clear path forward so they can continue their college education and graduate without the burden of financial debt caused by circumstances beyond their control.”
“No student should have to sit home because they can’t afford to pay their past due debt after having experienced the financial devastation caused by a global pandemic,” he said.
Great job, SC State!
