Six people were killed in a freak "dairy accident" at Prospect Valley Dairy's Colorado farm on Thursday (August 21), according to a press release shared by the Southeast Weld Fire Protection District.
"On August 20, 2025, at approximately 6:00 p.m., Southeast Weld Fire District was dispatched to a confined space rescue at a dairy located in the 32000 block of Weld County Road 18," the department said in its press release shared on its Facebook account Thursday. "Crews responded and took appropriate precautions to enter the confined space to perform rescue operations. Unfortunately, District personnel recovered six deceased individuals from the space. The District extends its sincere condolences to the families of the victims."
Preliminary findings confirmed that the six casualties, all identified as males, five of which were adults and one a high school student, are suspected to have been exposed to some kind of gas at the Prospect Valley Dairy Farm, the Weld County Coroner's Office confirmed to CBS News. The names of the casualties weren't immediately released as of Friday (August 22) morning.
The incident is being investigated by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, according to Denver 7.
“We can confirm that a tragic accident occurred on one of our member farms in Keenesburg, Colo., which has resulted in the death of six people,” the Dairy Farmers of America said in a statement obtained by the news station. “We are deeply saddened by this incident, and our thoughts and most sincere condolences go out to the friends and families of the deceased.”
