Simone Biles won 25 medals at worlds, making her the most decorated gymnast of all-time.
With her 21st medal, Biles set the record earlier this week by garnering the most medals ever won by a woman at the 2019 World Championships in Stuttgart, Germany. As of Sunday (October 13), you could say she outdid herself after delivering a show-stopping performance that sent her home with her 24th and 25th world medals (both gold) โ which bests the long held record 23 world medals Vitaly Scherbo achieved in the โ90s.
The 22-year-old dominated her competitors and took home five of the six golds during the all-around, team, vault, beam and floor exercise competitions. (As for the uneven bars, she placed fifth.) Her all-around turnout would become the talk of the ceremony, as Biles surpassed her opponents by 2.1 points, which set the bar as the largest margin of victory ever to be recorded at Worlds. Whatโs more, she delivered an equally impressive win with a full point margin victory during the floor event, and succeeded by more than a half a point on the beam.
โI canโt be more thrilled with the performance that I put out at this world championships. Iโm not a number person,โ Biles said modestly of her historical turnout. โThis is really the best worlds performance I have ever put out.โ
This isnโt the only time Biles has made history at this yearโs competition. Earlier this week, she reached new heights with a string of groundbreaking performances. Her iconic beam dismountย earlier this month has officially been coined as โThe Biles,โ and theย triple-double stuntย she pulled off during her floor routine at the qualifying round at Worlds is now considered โThe Biles II."
